Executive Officer: Peter McNaughton

Peter McNaughton was, until October 2019, Head of Education and Children's Service in Fife Council. Prior to that he was Head of Education in Midlothian Council. For over ten years, Peter worked for first, HMIE, and then Education Scotland. As an HMI, he inspected in all sectors, including inspections of early years, prisons and local authorities. Latterly, he was heavily involved in local authority support and challenge, as a District Inspector and then as an Assistant Director.  Prior to that, Peter was a Primary teacher, Assistant Headteacher and a Headteacher of two schools in West Lothian.

Professional Development Officer:  Colin Grant

Colin has been involved in Education for over 34 years and latterly with the wider Children’s Service Agenda. Graduating from Glasgow University and then Southampton in 1985 he started working in Glasgow as a Secondary Maths Teacher. Promoted posts included Depute Headteacher in St Modan’s High School, Stirling and then Headteacher of St Columba’s High School in Dunfermline where he led the school for 6 years.

In 2007, he secured the position of Director, Education Services, Dumfries and Galloway Council.

He has led an approach to CfE in the Authority which has sought to maximise empowerment for schools and support local solutions while emphasising the importance of strong collaboration. A successful VSE in 2015 was used to review the specific objective in Dumfries and Galloway’s business plan to:
 

‘promote and support a culture of confidence, collaboration and creativity’.

In 2015, Colin was appointed Director of Children, Young People and Life Long Learning and was previously Chair of Dumfries and Galloway’s multi agency Children’s Services Executive Group.

As Vice Chair of ADES for a period and as presenter at various conferences Colin has sought to contribute to the national debate from a local perspective considering how local innovation can influence wider thinking.
