Bright Start Breakfasts
The Bright Start Breakfasts Fund is now open for applications.
As announced in this year’s Programme for Government, Bright Start Breakfasts funding will expand access to breakfast clubs for primary school children over the 25/26 academic year.
Funding will be prioritised to areas where access to a breakfast club is most needed, and will expand access to families who are on the lowest incomes, or most at risk of living in poverty.. It will enable existing breakfast clubs to expand their provision, as well as support the establishment of new breakfast clubs where needed.
Inspiring Scotland is delivering the Fund on behalf of Scottish Government and have now shared news of the fund launch on their website alongside a landing page for applications: Bright Start Breakfasts – Inspiring Scotland. The deadline for applications is 12pm noon Monday 2nd June 2025 to ensure successful applicants are notified ahead of the school summer holidays.
Who can apply?
The fund is open to a wide range of applicants including schools, Local Authorities, third sector organisations, registered childcare providers, activity providers, parent or volunteer groups, and childminders.

We are pleased to share an update on the £3m Bright Start Breakfasts fund, which will support more breakfast clubs across Scotland to deliver new places for primary school children. This email confirms the fund manager, fund launch date, support available and next steps.
We can now confirm that we have appointed Inspiring Scotland as the Fund Manager for Bright Start Breakfasts delivery fund. We are pleased to be working with Inspiring Scotland and already benefiting from their expertise and insights into fund delivery to deliver Bright Start Breakfasts and oversee end-to-end processes.
Following our inception meeting with Inspiring Scotland, we expect the fund to launch on Wednesday, 14th May 2025. It will close at midday on Monday, 2nd June 2025. This is to ensure applicants are notified of the outcome of their application ahead of the school summer holidays.
Inspiring Scotland have plans in place to support applicants during the application window and details on this support will be shared in due course.
