This week, there are two major parts of the Scottish Government’s Education Reform Programme that we can update you on. Please see these detailed below:
· On Monday 23 June, a timeline setting out the next steps for reform to the curriculum, qualifications and assessment was published.
· This shows when changes can be expected and was produced with the Scottish Government’s delivery partners.
· The Education (Scotland) Bill was passed by the Scottish Parliament.
- The Bill creates Qualifications Scotland, which will replace the SQA, and His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education in Scotland (HMIE). Both Qualifications Scotland and HMIE will be operational from Autumn 2025.
· There are mechanisms included within the Bill that mean that parents and carers will have a voice in the governance of Qualifications Scotland
· To coincide with these updates, the Scottish Government’s Education Reform web page has been updated
Outside of those key updates, the Scottish Government is continuing to work with Education Scotland as it transitions to become a more curriculum focused body. We are also working with the University of Glasgow to launch the Centre for Teaching Excellence at the start of the new academic year, ensuring it provides teachers with more up-to-date research on teaching practices.
