Chinese Exchange Teachers

SCILT is offering the Chinese Exchange Teacher Programme 2025-26, a free opportunity for Scottish state primary and secondary schools to introduce Mandarin.

The Chinese Exchange Teachers can help schools internationalise the curriculum with language lessons and cultural insights that engage learners at all ages and stages.

Discovering China

SCILT is offering the chance to unlock new opportunities for learners with Discovering China NQ 2025-26! The programme presents free, live-streamed Mandarin classes at National 4, National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher levels, starting June 2025. Delivered via Glow Teams, these engaging lessons are designed to support schools that do not have access to a GTCS-registered Mandarin teacher. Timetables are flexible and tailored in consultation with each school. Prior knowledge isn’t required for National 4, making it accessible to beginners.

All classes are taught by qualified, GTCS registered teaches of Mandarin and are free of charge to state schools.

Discovering the World of Arabic

Discovering the World of Arabic is an exciting opportunity for schools to introduce Arabic into their curriculum, promoting linguistic diversity and inclusion.  SCILT offers live-streamed lessons taught by qualified Arabic teachers via Teams, with asynchronous materials to support learning. Programmes are flexible, offering blocks of learning and/or full courses for both primary (P5-P7) and secondary (BGE and Senior Phase) learners. All programmes are free of charge to any state school.

Lessons can be tailored to fit into schools’ existing timetables, fostering global awareness and cultural understanding for all learners. An assigned teacher is required to facilitate sessions. Schools should register interest by Friday, 25 April 2025 and bring the world into their classroom!
