Dear stakeholders, partners and colleagues,
Following the passing of the Scottish Languages Bill by the Scottish Parliament on 17 June 2025, I am writing to let you know that the Bill received Royal Assent on 31 July 2025 and has now officially become an Act of the Scottish Parliament
A link to the Scottish Languages Act 2025 is available via the Scottish Parliament’s website – Scottish Languages Bill | Scottish Parliament Website or at this link – Scottish Languages Act 2025.
Part 3 of the Act came into force today (1 August 2025) which gives the necessary powers to start to commence the substantive provisions of the Act in due course.
The Gaelic and Scots Division is now planning the implementation of the provisions and will share further details on these plans, as they are finalised and become available.
Meantime, if you have any further questions about this or any related matter, please use this email address to contact the team – [email protected]
