SDG Seminar Refugees Welcome?

Scottish Government has made us aware of this seminar event for educators taking place on Thursday 19th of February at 16:30-18:00.

In the seminar Mohamed Omar from Refugee Action will be speaking about the lived experiences of people seeking asylum in Scotland, the countries they have fled from, the journeys they’ve had and their experience in becoming ‘new Scots’. His presentation will be followed by a Q&A and an opportunity to try out methodologies and resources to support learning and teaching to address the mis/disinformation imbalances around the asylum issue in the UK.

This course is perfect for primary and secondary teachers who want to:

  • Deepen knowledge and understanding of up to date global refugee and migration patterns.
  • Integrate stories and experiences of asylum into learning and teaching .
  • Align practice with the articles of the UNCRC, especially Article 22 .
  • Build confidence in exploring issues of migration and asylum with learners.
  • Empower young people, as informed citizens, to speak up and take action.
