Skills Development Scotland Webinars

Skills Development Scotland delivers a research programme designed to inform and support our services and the work of organisations like yours. These webinars are an opportunity to explore insights, discuss findings, and connect with others with shared interests in the voice of young people.

Join us for one or both of the following sessions:

Webinar 1: Gender Stereotyping in Careers

Date: 12th August

Time: 3-4pm

This session will explore the findings from our 2025 research project, Gender Stereotyping in Careers, which examined the experiences of young people who chose to pursue careers where they were in the gender minority, such as young women in traditionally male-dominated sectors, or young men in female-dominated ones.

This qualitative study involved 20 in-depth interviews with young men and women, and focused on:

  • Why they chose a non-traditional career path
  • Who and what influenced their decision
  • What encouraged them to stay in that career

We’ll share insights into how gender stereotypes continue to shape young people’s choices and what we can do collectively to challenge these patterns and support more inclusive pathways.

Webinar 2: Understanding Young People’s Career Ambitions

Date: 22nd August

Time: 11-12pm

In this webinar, we’ll share findings from our latest research into the career ambitions of almost 3,000 young people in Scotland. The study explores the aspirations, motivations, and barriers young people face as they consider their futures, including the influences that guide their decisions and how they perceive different pathways.

This research provides valuable insights to help those working in careers, skills, and employability to better support young people’s career journeys.

This webinar is open to anyone with an interest in hearing from the voices of young people and supporting better outcomes for young people in Scotland.
